How to deploy your Drupal website
This article will explain how you deploy your Drupal website.
Prerequisites
- A web hosting account with cPanel access
- A domain name
Steps
Create a Database
- In cPanel, locate the “Databases” section and find the MySQL Database Wizard (or similar option depending on your host).
- Create a new database and a separate user with a strong password for this database.
Install Drupal (Using Softaculous)
- In cPanel, navigate to the “Software” section and find “Softaculous Apps Installer” (or similar option).
- Search for “Drupal” and click on “Install Now.”
- Choose the desired Drupal version (latest recommended for security). Select the installation protocol (http or https) and enter your domain name.
- Decide on the installation directory (usually leave blank for installation in the main directory).
- Fill in the database details created in step 1 (database name, user, and password).
- Configure the admin username, password, and email for your Drupal site.
- Review the installation details and click “Install.”
Manual Installation (Alternative):
- Download the latest Drupal core files from https://www.drupal.org/download.
- In cPanel, access the “File Manager.”
- Navigate to your desired installation directory (usually “public_html”).
- Upload the downloaded Drupal archive (zip file).
- Extract the archive contents into the directory.
- Delete the archive file itself.
Complete Drupal Installation
- Open your web browser and visit your domain name (e.g., [invalid URL removed]).
- You’ll be greeted by the Drupal installation wizard. Choose your preferred language and proceed.
- Select the “Standard” installation profile (recommended for most users) and continue.
- Enter the database details you created earlier (name, user, password).
- Drupal will perform the installation and display the login screen.
Login and Manage Your Drupal Site
- Use the admin username and password you created during installation to log in.
- You’ll now be in the Drupal administration dashboard where you can manage your website content, users, themes, and modules.
Additional Tips
- Consider using a strong security module for Drupal to protect your site from potential threats.
- Explore the vast selection of free and premium themes and modules available for Drupal to customise your website’s functionality and appearance.
