Learn how to use a CDN with our cPanel hosting
Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) can significantly improve website loading times by caching static content like images, videos, and JavaScript files on servers around the world. This means visitors closer to those servers will download content faster, enhancing their experience.
This guide will walk you through setting up a free CDN with Cloudflare using your cPanel account.
Prerequisites
- A website hosted with a cPanel Web Hosting account.
- A domain name pointing to your website.
Steps:
Sign Up for Cloudflare:
- Head to Cloudflare signup and create a free account.
Add Your Domain:
- On the Cloudflare signup page, enter your domain name and click “Add Site.”
- Cloudflare will scan your DNS records. Choose the free plan if prompted.
Verify Nameservers:
- Cloudflare will display two nameservers. You’ll need to update your domain’s nameservers to point to these.
Update Domain Nameservers:
- Log in to your domain registrar’s control panel (where you purchased your domain).
- Locate the DNS management section and update the nameservers with the ones provided by Cloudflare. This process may vary depending on your registrar.
Wait for Propagation:
- It can take up to 24 hours for the nameserver changes to propagate globally.
Activate CDN in cPanel (Optional):
- Some cPanel providers offer a Cloudflare integration. Look for a “Cloudflare” icon in cPanel. If available, follow the on-screen instructions to activate it.
Configure Cloudflare Settings (Optional):
- Log in to your Cloudflare dashboard (Cloudflare login).
- Here you can configure various settings like caching behavior, security options, and performance optimisations.
Testing and Verification:
- Once the nameserver changes propagate, you can verify if your website is using Cloudflare’s CDN.
- Visit DNS checker and enter your domain name. You should see Cloudflare’s nameservers listed.
Additional Notes:
- Consider creating a CNAME record in cPanel to point a subdomain (e.g., [invalid URL removed]) to your Cloudflare CDN.
- For detailed configuration options and troubleshooting, refer to Cloudflare’s documentation (Cloudflare documentation).
